Does God Forgive All Sins?

When it comes to sin, there are a lot of misconceptions out there. Some people believe that if they do something bad, they are automatically going to go to hell. Others believe that as long as they repent and ask for forgiveness, God forgives them no matter what. So does God forgive all sins? The answer is yes...and no. Let's explore this topic further in today's blog post!

Did Jesus Christ Pay For All Sin?

Our Lord Jesus Christ died for the forgiveness of sins past, present time, and future. Jesus was the perfect sacrifice, and he paid the price for our sins. This means that there is no sin God cannot forgive except one and we will explore this later (Unforgiven Sin).

God's Grace Is Sufficient

All we need to do is ask for forgiveness and we will be forgiven. The Bible says that we all fall short of the glory of God but thank God for our Lord Jesus Christ who by God's grace came and by His sacrifice forgave the sins of all mankind. Now, we no longer need to live in our old sinful ways, instead, we are a new creation in Christ Jesus.

However, this does not mean that we can just go out and sin all we want and expect to be forgiven. We still need to repent and live a life keeping with repentance. The Bible says in Matthew 3:8 "Produce fruit in keeping with repentance." Repentance isn't crying at an altar. The original meaning of repentance is to "change the way you think."

Why Did Jesus Christ Need to Die?

In the old testament, they would slaughter animals as a way to forgive their sins and make an atonement with God. In the new testament, Jesus is the lamb of God.

The truth is, no human being could have paid the price for our sins. We all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). The penalty for sin is death (Romans 6:23). So because of our sins, we deserve to die. But Jesus loved us so much that He was willing to take our place and die instead.

"But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8

This is the good news of the gospel! We don't have to die because of our sins because Jesus already did it for us! All we need to do is repent and ask for forgiveness, and we will be forgiven.

1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."

Holy Spirit Doesn't Condemn You

When you commit sin, the Holy Spirit isn't condemning you. No, He is actually reminding you about who you are in Christ Jesus (John 14:26). You are a son & daughter of God.

God showed that He loves you so much by giving His only son Jesus Christ, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. Eternal life isn't sometime in the future, it is actually now.

What Is Eternal Life?

The Bible says in John 17:3 "Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent."

You see, God is interested in knowing us personally. He wants to have an intimate relationship with us. He did everything and now He gives us the choice of whether or not we want to be with Him.

Our heavenly Father doesn't send people to hell. He gave us a choice whether or not we want to be with Him and hell is where God is not. Hell, is the absence of God.

What Is The Unforgivable Sin?

The unforgivable sin is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. This is when someone rejects Jesus Christ as their personal savior and insults the Holy Spirit. The Bible says in Mark 3:28-29 "All sins will be forgiven the sons of man, and whatever blasphemies they utter; but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin"

Blasphemy Against Holy Spirit

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is very serious because it is rejecting God Himself. There is no forgiveness for this sin - it is eternal.

However, there is a specific criterion to fall under this category. Many people worry about whether or not they blasphemed God. Believe it or not, it is actually very difficult to do.

Criteria For The Unpardonable Sin?

In Hebrews 6:4-6 the Bible says "For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, and then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt."

So, for you to commit the unforgivable sin you first have to be enlightened, taste the heavenly gifts, share in the Holy Spirit and even taste the goodness of God! On top of that, even the powers of the age to come. In that place, if you fall away and reject God, it is impossible to restore you to repentance.

Here is an example to understand this better:

When parents say no to their child and the child gets upset and starts saying "I hate you, I want nothing to do with you. You are horrible parents." The parents understand that the child just doesn't understand what he/she is saying. On the other hand, when a child grows up and matures and in that place says "I hate you and I want nothing to do with you," then those words actually carry weight.

In other words, we have to reach full maturity in Christ, taste His goodness (in that place it is actually hard to reject Him), and then reject Him. Then, it is impossible to be restored back to repentance.

So, if you are worried that you committed an unforgivable sin, do not worry, you haven't. The fact that you are worried shows that you haven't committed it.

Conclusion: God's Forgiveness Of Sin

So does that mean that God will forgive all of our sins? Yes, He is a loving and forgiving God. However, we must repent, acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord and invite Him into our hearts.
