When it comes to giving back to God, many people are unsure about how to tithe correctly. Do you give 10% of your income? What if you only make a little bit of money? Is there a certain way that you're supposed to tithe? Can you tithe something other than money?

In this blog post, we will answer all of your questions about how to tithe correctly. We'll discuss the different ways that you can give back and how tithing can help bless your life and the lives of others!

What Is A Tithe?

A tithe is a tenth of your income or "first fruits" given to God. It was introduced as law in Leviticus 27:30. It is now an act of worship and obedience that shows how committed you are to Him, how thankful you are for His blessings, and how willing you are to share in the responsibility of taking care of others.

We see the principle of tithing both in the old testament and the new testament in various places (look at "Bible Verses on Tithing"). While it does not explicitly mention tithing in the early church the idea and principles are still there.

Where Should I Give My Tithe?

When it comes to tithing, it's important to remember that the money should go where you grow. Where you receive spiritual food and nourishment.

This should be the local church you attend. Through generous giving to your local church, you are supporting the work that God is doing in your community and helping to further His kingdom!

Why Should I Tithe?

Tithing is a principle that we should all practice in our lives. It is an act of faith and obedience that shows we trust God with our finances.

Tithing can be seen as acknowledging God as the provider, the source, of our wealth, and by tithing our "thank you" becomes more than words. Our faith and gratitude are met with action.

The first time we see tithing is when Abraham gave to Melchizedek in Genesis 14.

In this story, Abraham, after his victory against Chedorlaomer, is the first person in the Bible to give one-tenth of all that he had.

Abraham gave not because he had to or was told to but because he recognized the favor of God upon his life shown through the victory God has given him.

Should I Tithe My Gross or Net Income?

In the old testament under the law, paying tithes was 10% of your Net income. Thank God we are no longer living in the old testament. In the new testament, we don't give because we are required. Instead, we give out of love for God and for how He has blessed us.

We give, out of our hearts & love for God.

We shouldn't focus on giving a specific amount but on being generous. Apostle Paul mentions in 2 Corinthians 9:6-7, "The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."

Tithing is not about giving a certain percentage of your income, but instead being generous from the heart. When you tithe out of love for God, you are opening up the door for Him to bless you abundantly! In other words, you are giving Him access to your finances. So, how do you do this?

What’s the Difference Between Tithes and Offerings?

The tithe is a specific percentage (10%) of your income that is given to the church. Offerings, on the other hand, are additional gifts you give to God and His work in the world. Offerings can be any amount or anything that you feel called to give.

Both tithes and offerings should come from our hearts, not from what we're supposed to do or how much money we make. As long as it's done out of love for God and his kingdom, it pleases Him!

How To Tithe?

The correct way to tithe is to give 10% of your income back to God. This is known as the “tithe” and comes from a commandment in the Bible.

Tithing can be done by giving cash, check, or other forms of payment like stocks and bonds. This means that you don’t necessarily have to give 10% of your entire salary; rather, you can take 10% of any money that you make, including bonuses or gifts.

Here are three things to think about when tithing!

1. Decide how much you want to give.

Don't worry about how much you "should" tithe. Instead, focus on how much you want to give or what the Holy Spirit is telling you.

God is interested in our hearts, not in our wallets. If you want to give 10% of your income, that's great! But if you can only afford to give 5%, that's okay too! As long as your heart is in the right place, God will be pleased with your generosity!

2. Give cheerfully!

When you give cheerfully, it shows that you're doing it out of love for God and not out of obligation. This is what pleases Him the most!

3. Give back to where you receive spiritual food.

When it comes to tithing, it's important to remember that the money should go where you grow spiritually. This means giving back to your local church. By supporting your church with your tithe, you are helping to further God's kingdom and blessing others in the process!

Tithing is an important part of how we show our love and commitment to God. It's how we give thanks for all the blessings He has given us, how we support the work that He is doing in our community, and how we open up the door for Him to bless us abundantly.

So if you're looking for information on how to tithe correctly, remember these three tips:

  • Decide how much you want to give
  • Give cheerfully
  • Give back where you receive spiritual food

Do I Benefit From Tithing?

The simple answer is yes! We see multiple times in the Bible where God rewards those who give to Him generously.

We see in Genesis 15 that after Abraham offered his tithe, the Lord appeared to him in a vision and said, "Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great." God blesses and promises Abraham with descendants as numerous as the stars in the heavens.

We see in 2 Corinthians chapter 9, how much you reap determines how much you sow. In other words, how much you give determines how much you will receive. If you sow sparingly then you will reap sparingly, but if you sow generously then you will reap generously. This is a principle that anyone can apply in their lives in the church today.

Remember, do not look at generosity as an amount but rather as a heart posture. Generosity is not determined by how much one puts in the offering box. It is determined by one's willingness to give. They are generous because they gave out of love and not because they had to.

So if you're looking to reap the benefits of tithing, remember that it should be done out of love and with a cheerful heart

The Love For Money

The Bible teaches in 1 Timothy chapter 6 that "the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil" and because of their love for money, some wander away from the faith.

An easy way to combat the love for money is to tithe. When we start tithing, it changes our perspective on money and gives us an opportunity to become more selfless. Tithing teaches us that we do not own every dollar we have. It teaches us instead to steward God's money for His kingdom!
